"As a marathon runner, I don't need sugar for energy": Greg
April 16, 2023
Greg's been a marathon runner for years.
He'd always believed that you need to "carb load" before and during a long-distance run.
So he would use gels and other quick-burning sugars to get an energy boost. But then he'd suffer from the energy crash that came with them, as well as cramping.
What Greg found after several experiments was that he runs better and longer with other sources of fuel: protein and fat.
And also, it's not just what runners eat on the day, but also in between races or marathons that makes a difference: You can't run off a bad diet!
Now Greg sees rewards as foods that make him feel good and run better. He recognizes that for his physiology, less processed foods and much less sugar works for him.
Whether you're a marathon runner or you lead a more sedentary lifestyle, Greg has some inspiring insight about living a happy and healthy life.
