Listen to episode 96:
How have the processed food companies "hooked" us?
November 13, 2022
Michael Moss' book "Hooked" came out in 2021, and when I read it... it blew my mind!
As a consumer, it doesn't feel like the food manufacturers care about nourishing us, and even less about our health!
How has the processed foods industry "hooked" us on their processed products? Are they really created to be addictive?
Moss' book addresses questions about how fast food and processed foods affect our bodies and our brains (blood sugar, insulin, dopamine rush, obesity). He also makes the comparison with the tobacco industry and the addictive nature of cigarettes... and sugar.
What's behind the obesity epidemic? Are we really collectively more greedy, or do we just lack willpower?
Apparently not.
Moss' book explains the "brain rush" that sugar and processed foods create, hampering our ability to make rational decisions about what to eat (and how much!).
So what exactly is it about processed foods (including sugar and flour) that makes us crave them?
How do the big food companies hook us? And how can we choose to UN-hook ourselves?
You'll get some insight and tips in this episode!
