Listen to episode 54:
From almost blind to no more diabetes meds: Gord

January 23, 2022

Before January 2021, Gord Isman used food to alleviate stress, isolation, and tough emotions. He would turn to food to find solace.

Over the course of the pandemic, Gord says he started to get lazy with his eating, and would turn to pizza, Chinese food, sweets, soda, and late-night snacking. And of course, he started to gain weight.

On January 18 2021, Gord had to be taken to the hospital in an emergency. He thought that his recent rapid weight loss was a good thing. But he was also not sleeping well because he had dry mouth. He was having to go to the bathroom every 30 minutes. He just wasn't feeling right.

And then he started to lose his vision.

After blood tests and scans at the hospital, Gord was told that he was considered DKA status, in other words, in diabetic ketoacidosis. He was close to a diabetic coma and could have died.

Listen to Gord's courageous and inspiring story of how he turned his health around and is now diabetes free and medication free!
